Logan has been babbling as any baby his age will do, for months now. Just in the last few days, he has shown that he is actually trying to communicate more using language. He proved this week that he knows when it is appropriate to use Mama or Dada to reference Michelle and I. I have to say that was certainly a heartwarming moment for me. I walked into the room, and had heard him babbling prior to me entering, but once he saw me he smiled broadly and said, “Dada”. It amazes me how something so simple can be such a memorable hallmark for me.
As a parent of a young child, you wonder if your child is developing normally, and if the connections you think are forming in their mind are actually there or if they are just something you read into the situations. When your child starts to recognize and react to you visually, when they start to laugh, when they start to express preferences and the first little hints of their personality start to peek out, all of these things are wonderful memories. All of them are secondary to the first time he called me Dada and he knew what he was saying. I love being a dad.
